About Dharamsala

Dharamsala, a laid back town in the state of Himachal Pradesh, is located in the Kangra Valley, in the shadow of the Dhauladhar mountains. It became internationally famous after the arrival of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile in 1959, when China occupied the ancient land of Tibet by force. Since then, many Tibetan monastries and institutions have been set up in the neighbouring towns of Dharamsala and McLeodganj, which give a valuable peek into the Tibetan lifestyle and culture. Other attractions of Dharamsala include treks to nearby hills and waterfalls, some noteworthy places of worship and the spectacular views of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas.
