Himachal Pradesh is a state situated in northern India, in the Western Himalayan mountains. The mountainous state is dotted with hill stations across its territory such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamsala, Dalhousie, Kasauli and Spiti Valley. Major perennial rivers run through it such as Beas, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and Yamuna. The state is also home to many renowned temples and other places of worship. Some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries are located in the regions adjoining Tibet, such as Lahaul-Spiti. The state also houses the Tibetan government in exile and serves as the permanent residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
