Maharashtra, a state in Western India, is the second most populous state and is the third largest state of India. Maharashtra is the wealthiest state by all major economic parameters and also the most industrialized state in India. It is home to big metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Nashik. Being the home of the Maratha dynasty and other ancient dynasties, Maharashtra is scattered with historically important monuments, forts, tombs and ruins across the state. The Western Ghats, which runs through the western part of the state boasts of many hill stations. The eastern part of the state hosts many tiger reserves and national parks. Maharashtra also consists of many spiritual centres and places of worship. Its metropolitan cities of Pune and Mumbai host the renowned Ganesotsav festival annually.
