Delhi is the capital of India and being about 5000 years old, is said to be one of the oldest existing cities in the world. Historically, it was the seat of power of The Rajputs and the various West Asian and European colonizers such as the Slave dynasty, the Khiljis, the Tughlaqs, the Mughals and finally the British. In view of this legacy, there are many monuments, forts, palaces, tombs and museums that stand testimony to these earlier regimes, which a traveller could explore. In addition, independent India has built its own monuments as well, which are worth a visit.
