About Rameshwaram

Rameshwaram is located on an island in the Gulf of Mannar, and is separated from the Indian mainland by the Pamban channel. It is considered to be one of the holiest places for Hindus. It is associated with the epic of Ramayana, and is said to be the site from where Lord Rama commenced his campaign against the demon-king Ravana. In view of this connection, Rameswaram has several temples of epic significance and the economy of the town is entirely centered around the pilgrims / tourists.
