It is near to Belur Chennakeshava temple, this temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva named as Hoysaleswara temple, also referred simply as the Halebidu temple located in Halebid. This is a twin temple dedicated to Hoysaleswara and Santaleswara Shiva lingas, it has two Nandi shrines outside, where each seated to face the respective Shiva lingas inside sanctum. It is a monolithic rock structure and grabs your eyes immediately. The exterior of the temple is intricately carved. Its lowest layers consist of bands with friezes that contains the sculpture of elephants, lions, horses and etc., The artwork seems to be each of the lions is unique in shape over the entire span that covers more than 200 metres. Some parts of the sculptures are broken due to invasions.
This temple is another amazing traditional monument of the Hoysala architecture in the 12th century, apart from the magnificent temples at Belur and Halebid, Hoysala rulers built many beautiful temples in Karnataka.
