Originally founded in the year 1474 in Tibet, the Gyuto monastery was relocated to Dharamsala in 1959 following the Chinese occupation of Tibet. Over 500 monks of all ages live and practise the Tantric meditations, rituals and Buddhist philosophy.
The monastery is well maintained, has a peaceful ambience and has excellent statues of the Buddha and other holy ones. More importantly, you can see the daily life of monks, including their chanting and meditating sessions.
The monastry is located at the foot of the Dhauladhar mountains, and hence presents a very picturesque view.
